  • [Article 1590]12.05.2017: Phonojam

  • [Article 1548]01.03.2017: KONZERT E42.A8 (BE/FR) – Juan Manuel Castrillo (ES)

    E42.A8 (BE)
    Electroacoustic Improvisation

    Is first of all a place ;

    A place where we try to create the conditions that make improvisation possible, a pretext for meeting, but also an end in itself.

    A place on the fence : not useful anymore for its previous purpose, and yet without a new and definitive form.

    To take the time ;

    To think not in terms of composition and efficiency, but rather in terms of freedoms-constraints, texture-range, inside-outside, games-interactions, pulse-stretch, moments-intensity, diversion-obviousness, amazement-oblivion, silence-saturation,  space-sound +++

    ~on the occasion of these extra-muros sessions we will gather a few from those regular players : Ludovic Medery, Benoît Deuxant, Flavien Gillié, Alice Just, Arthur Lacomme, Sylvain van Iniitu, Quentin Conrate, Thomas Coquelet & Frederic Trentelier.

    The name E42.A8 is undeterminately referencing highway junctions, impossible chess moves, Manuel Göttsching + Basic Channel titles & P16.D4.

    E42.A8 -> Bandcamp
    E42.A8 -> Soundcloud

    Juan Manuel Castrillo (ES)
    The concert is comprised of two pieces conceived from field recordings. The first part Memorias de Siria follows a surreal narrative in order to create a dreamlike atmo. Mobilitzacions takes a very different approach. It was composed keeping sound sources recognizable and including as a compositional element the social context where the sounds originated.

    Juan Manuel Castrillo works mainly in the field of phonography, but also in soundscape composition and realization of sound installations. In addition, he works on design, production and post-production of sound for cinema, documentaries and tv. Is founder of the Earwitness label and published albums in Gruenrekorder (GER), Impulsive Habitat (POR), TiConzero (ITA), Sudamérica Electrónica (ARG), CPRecords (ARG), among others.

  • [Article 1427]11.12.2016: Reflow (D) – trabouliste & Wilke (D) – Worsel Strauss (D) – Les Croisières Dolori (F/BE)

    Reflow (D)

    Worsel Strauss (D)

    Live lap steel looping.

    Les Croisières Dolori (F/BE)

    Two girls with tapping shoes on amplified metal boards, a trombonist on his bed of rototoms and various drums, some yogurt songs on foggy layers of synthetiser, an eastern-nowave-infused blues with its analogical bass. The Croisières Dolori, a trip in a flat-bottom barque, with a stop at the
    „deckchair“ bar, a pagan party lost somewhere in the meanders of a forgotten delta.

  • [Article 1407]22.10.2016: Limited Liability Sounds (PL) – Emerge (D) – Muyassar Kurdi (US) – b°tong (CH)

    LIMITED LIABILITY SOUNDS is the name of the Polish ambient/electronic musician Adam Mankowski. Project is active since 2006, when appeared first official CD-R release, titled – “So Hysterical!”. The name „Limited Liability Sounds“ is a kind of protest against the treatment of noise as a phenomenon that does not deserve the term as a musical genre. Mankowski always claimed that the noise is something natural, which has always accompanied man and has the same rights as silence. Music from the sign LLS is a mixture of drones, experimental electronics, ambient, sometimes noise and field recordings. For the last three years he has been working with a few skillful artists producers as Ishida Naoki (Japan), Stoned Wire (Hungary), Dao De Noize (Ukraine), Gimu (Brazil) and Luca Asari (Italy).

    EMERGE is inspired by the minimalist traditions of experimentalism and non-academic noise music, focusing on generating sound structures intended to make atmospheres emerge that are open to each listener’s own interpretation. The choice of sound sources used is usually very limited. In most cases only rudiments of the original sounds are recognizable due to various treatments. EMERGE also uses and recycles raw material from a variety of artists/musicians.

    EMERGE also runs the label attenuation circuit and is an organizer for mostly experimental music in Augsburg.

    Muyassar Kurdi (Chicago/NYC): ‘Completely concentrated upon her bizarre ritual, the singer – dressed in black – emits tortured vocalisations and cries worthy of Yoko Ono in full flight… It’s incredibly inyourface and perturbing but makes you smile too: the sheer pleasure of making a racket.’ -L ’ A l s a c e ( F r a n c e )

    In performance, she explores the relationship between abstract sound and metaprimordial movement, obliquely confronting ideas of masculine subjugation by reappropriating and then distorting hegemonically sexualised figurative motion and juxtaposing it with random, abrasive and jarring acoustic and electronic sound components along with wordless vocalisations.
    A joyfully selfexorcizing ritualist, Kurdi studied voice and dance with legendary vocalist, dancer and ECM recording artist Meredith Monk via The House Foundation for the Arts as well as learning Japanese dance tradition Butoh with Tadashi Endo, director of the Butoh Center MAMU and Butoh Festivals in Germany, and Mexican master of the form Diego Piñon.

    B°TONG hostile soundscapes (Switzerland/Sweden – Silken Tofu & Greytone)

    Chris Sigdell is an experimental electronic musician. He developed a soft spot for early industrial textures and pioneering ambient soundscapes while cutting his teeth in cult industrial band NID (1995-2005). He builds an interesting body of work that moves in various directions at the same time. From dealings with ambient and isolationism on one hand and experimental music, ranging from the soft micro-sound end to the more engaging noise end, in a clever combination of ideas…

    Since 2005 he has performed at more than 200 venues in Europe, Russia, Canada and the USA. He has appeared at various renown festivals such as: Norberg Festivalen (S), Temple Of Silence (PL), PNEM (NL), Støy På Landet (N), Monsters Of Rot (IRL), Destroy All Artifacts (UK), Unser Industrie (DE), Ausklang (DE), Shift (CH), Lab30 (DE), Kildemose Festivalen (DK), Zeit Für Lärm (DE), Sinus Series (CH).

    B°TONG has released +10 albums on labels like Drone Records (DE), Zoharum (PL), Attenuation Circuit (DE), Noecho Records (UK) and Gears Of Sand (USA). Nowadays he is signed to Greytone (“Hostile Environments” CD) and Silken Tofu (“Prostration Before Infinity” LP).

    This summer B°TONG will play some open-air festivals in Denmark & Switzerland.

  • [Article 1363]19.11.2016: Mortaja (D) & Tardive Dyskinesia (D)

    Mortaja (D)
    Mortaja is Bert Lehmann from Bochum, Germany. Evidently influenced by classic Dark Ambient/Industrial artists like Lustmord, Ah-Cama Sotz and the like, Mortaja worked for years as a living room only project. Bert quickly became member of the audiophob label family and has demonstrated his musical abilities on several releases as well as live performances. His highlights so far were live appearances at the Maschinenfest and Schlagstrom festivals. Album releases so far: „Drown In Blood“ (2011), „Bone Chamber“ (2014).

    Tardive Dyskinesia (D)
    The beginning of Tardive Dyskinesia reaches back into 2002, when first recordings were made for what would later become the Sadistic EP. The first official works are dated in 2003, followed by two releases on Steinklang Records in 2004 and 2005. The musical work of Tardive Dyskinesia is influenced by a wide spectrum of musical masterminds: Industrial pioneers as Laibach, Scorn, Godflesh, Einstürzende Neubauten, Jesu, Brutal Truth and Vromb were as formative to the sound of Tardive Dyskinesia as Peter Gabriel or David Bowie. The fundamental concept of the project consists in experimenting with all kinds of sounds without any limits regarding the process and result. Everything can and will be possible, only constricted by the limits of phantasy, possibilities and proficiency. After Ronny released a few recordings under his own label moniker Dystonia Recordings and on other CDr-labels and going through a time of experimenting with new ideas and directions, he released his first recording „The Letter“ on audiophob in 2012.

  • [Article 1354]08.11.2016: Xover (I/USA) – Flo Huth (D)

    Flo Huth (D)

    Flo Huth is a soundartist from Mannheim/Germany. He works with concrete and synthetic sounds for composition, improvisation or soundinstallations. Besides that he is organizing the monthly „.elektrosmog“-series in Mannheim and is active in the extt.xett art-collective.

    Some links to recent works:

    Xover (IT/USA)

    The project Xover is an electronic sound and visual performance executed by Danilo Casti (Sardinia, Italy)  and Travis McCoy Fuller (Boston, USA). The performance encompasses glitch, drone, noise and field recordings. Xover comes from the gathering of our paths in experimental electronic music, a mixture between digital and analogue sounds, between programming and circuit bending, between no-idiomatic shapes and abstract sound objects. Structures are made in the moment to disrupt time perception and audio spaces, overlapped by generative visual textures.
